Microdermabrasion

Mega-Peel Microdermabrasion Restores Skin Health

microdermabrasionMicrodermabrasion is a medically-based, in-office treatment designed to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. During a microdermabrasion session, a powerful, yet gentle machine uses vacuum pressure to move tiny crystals over the skin’s surface to remove dead cells, improve sun damage, stimulate collagen, and circulate more blood and oxygen to the surface resulting in fresh, healthy-looking skin. Not to be confused with “at-home” kits that simply exfoliate the skin, this treatment should always be performed in a physician’s office by medically trained and supervised clinicians. We recommend combining a series of five treatments, 2 to 3 weeks apart, along with professional skin care products to improve sun-damage, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and overall tone and texture of the skin. You may need more than one series in order to achieve the desired results. Although microdermabrasion treats most skin types and conditions, the procedure is not suitable for active cystic acne.

Schedule a complimentary consultation with Sandra Higdon, medical aesthetician, for a skin analysis and to see if Microdermabrasion is right for you.  Call 240-482-2555 for an appointment in Chevy Chase or 301-345-7375 for Greenbelt today!

About the Procedure

Before the procedure, our licensed aesthetician cleanses the face, removing surface makeup, oil, and dirt, and then covers the eyes to protect them.  After adjusting the power of the vacuum and the flow of crystals to the desired levels for your skin type, the clinician applies the tip of the hand piece to the skin and moves a stream of crystals slowly over the surface of the face.  The pressure and number of passes over the face vary for each individual.  Upon completion of the procedure, the clinician removes the crystals with cool water and applies a calming and hydrating cream or lotion to the skin, followed by sunscreen.

Post Treatment Instructions:

The skin may be pink or “glowing” after the treatment, but this condition usually dissipates after a few hours.  Avoid being in the direct sun, and if possible, keep your skin clean and makeup free for the rest of the day.  For women returning to work or attending an event, we recommend applying a mineral-based makeup to assist in covering any redness and lessening any chance of sensitivity, reaction or infection.

After your first treatment, the clinician observes how your skin reacts and determines the number and frequency of future sessions. In addition, the clinician will recommend professional skin care products to help you reach the desired results and control how your skin responds.
